Define the purchase duty
Where a thickener feeds a filter press, the grade should be evaluated across both units. A polymer selected solely for rapid settling can shift an unmeasured burden into the press and leave the apparently cheaper offer with a poorer overall operating result.
Identify the sample, actual feed and required water-and-solids result before asking for a recurring supply commitment.
Describe the complete solids path
Map feedwell, bed, withdrawal, storage and press feed. Record whether additional conditioning is used before filtration. The tailings application file establishes the first unit; the second unit needs its own acceptance criteria.
Include time and handling between units. A fresh laboratory sediment may not represent the aged and pumped underflow that reaches the press.
Use a combined sample comparison
Screen active dose and grade under controlled preparation. Measure overflow fines, settling and compaction, then evaluate representative filtration behavior. Keep sample identity and history linked so the press result can be assigned to the correct condition.

Calculate value at an accepted duty
